Life of Tracy "Cyclone Tracy" came into existence at 10 AM on 21 December 1974, when it lay well to Darwin's north. On 24 December 1974 Tracy rounded Cape Fourcroy, Bathurst Island's western tip, and then moved along an east-south-easterly course toward Darwin.

Statistics Tracy killed 71 people, caused $837 million in damage (1974 AUD) and destroyed more than 70 percent of Darwin's buildings, including 80 percent of houses. Tracy left homeless more than 41,000 out of the 47,000 inhabitants of the city prior to landfall and required the evacuation of over 30,000 people.
