A White British 15 year old boy, who was known to suffer from epilepsy, died on 4th January 2014 He was known to be polite, caring to family members, smartly dressed and positive about his return to school after the previous summer holidays. A teacher described him as 'likeable and helpful'. Whilst there was some evidence of loving relationships between family members, anger was also a feature, and the children were variously subject to physical chastisement (abuse), emotional abuse and neglect. The cause of death has been ascertained as 'Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy' (SUDEP). The levels of his anti-epileptic medication were significantly below the normal therapeutic range.
