1 Solar Probe Plus Fluxgate Magnetometer QSR – Oct 2014 1 SPF MAG Quarterly Report – Oct 2014 The MAG EM1 (EQM) (board and frame at right) was successfully electrically and mechanically integrated to the LNPS and DCB at SSL on 9/29 – 10/1/2014. A MAG data simulator was created to provide a magnetometer interface for FIELDS 2, necessary because we are not funded to produce yet another EM Mag. It was delivered to University of Minnesota in July 2014 for integration into FIELDS2. The photo at right shows the data simulator in its frame with mass- loading. Fabrication of the EM MAG sensor MLI blanket (ITO/SiOx/Aluminized Kapton) and a composite boom and titanium bracket simulator for the MAG thermal balance test (11/2014) are underway. 2 Solar Probe Plus Fluxgate Magnetometer QSR – Oct 2014 SPF MAG Quarterly Report – Oct 2014 2 The MAG EM2 electronics and the MAG EM2 sensor (shown at right) are complete and ready for scale factor, offset, and orthogonality measurements using thin shell calibration at the MAG test site. The sensor Dummy Load has been completed. It connects to the MAG electronics in place of a sensor, allowing the electronics to be operated in absence of a sensor and cable. The multi-mag GSE board has been completed (with FPGA code and basic software) and is working on the bench. It will replace the current system, which is Top - EM2 sensor with composite cover; bottom – Dummy Load limited to 4 Hz, providing background-subtracted time-correlated sampling for up to 4 magnetometers at 256 Hz with resolution of +/- 0.015 nT in Earth field. Work continues on developing and testing the variometer mode.
