Guided Floats 0 A few indigenous tribes include the Chibchan, Chocoan Cueva, Teribes, Nobe Bugle and Kuna. 0 Many races contribute to Panamanian culture such as workers from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Trinidad, Saint Lucia and China who immigrated to work on the Panamanian Railroad and Canal projects between the 1840s and 1914. 0 Several important genres of music resulted from the influx of Spanish into the culture. These genres are the Cumbia, Tamborito, Salsa, and Tipico. 0 Since the completion of the Panama Canal in 1914, Panama's economy has been greatly influenced by this world transportation artery. The canal provides revenues and jobs; the dominant service industries function basically near the canal.

They help in curing and are used as mediators between the living and the spirit world. 0 0 Flutes are used to invoke the spirit world.

Guided Floats 0 Salsa, calypso (from Trinidad), reggae and jazz are also popular. 0 One belief of the Kuna tribe is that game and animals are sometimes released from the Kalus -- mythical many leveled storehouses located at the tops of mountains, under the sea, and under the layers of the earth. 0 The Kuna "Singing Man" as he is called, will make chanting or groaning noises in order to keep away evil spirits during childbirth, lest they take advantage of the woman' 5 weak condition. 0 At 14, girls go through a four day long coming of age ceremony which involves cutting the hair short. One part of the ceremony involves making rattles and painted balsa wood mnemonic devices for use in the recitation of chants. 0 The chanters perform for all four days, alternating when they get tired.
