Student responsibilities To read and become familiar with this policy To attend school daily and be prepared for class To know, and obey school rules given by any school personnel To tell school personnel about any dangerous behavior at school or on the way to/from school To treat everyone with respect To bring to school only materials allowed To respect school property, community property, and the property of others

School staff rights To work in a safe and orderly environment To be treated courteously and respectfully To bring complaints or concerns to administration, Network and District offices To receive supportive professional development and resources

School staff responsibilities To explicitly teach, re-teach and model clear behavioral expectations to all students To actively supervise all areas of the school building and use positive strategies to re-direct behavior To provide engaging learning activities that minimize opportunities for disruption To intervene early and de-escalate inappropriate behaviors

School Staff Responsibilities To identify and respond effectively to students’ social, emotional, and/or behavioral health needs, including referring students for additional support when necessary To treat everyone in the school community fairly and with respect For administrators to review the circumstances surrounding each situation and exercise their discretion to assign interventions/consequences in the best interest of the school community

Admin. Responsibilities For administrators to apply the SCC accurately, consistently, and in a non- discriminatory manner, including providing students with opportunities to respond, notifying parents/guardians when disciplinary action is taken, and recording all disciplinary action in Impact

Did you know? SCC applies to students at all times during the day, while on school property, while traveling to and from school, at any school-related event, on any vehicle funded by CPS (such as a school bus), and while using the CPS network.

SIX GROUPS OF BEHAVIORS Group 1 – Inappropriate Group 2 – Disruptive Group 3 – Seriously Disruptive Group 4 – Very Seriously Disruptive Group 5 – Most Seriously Disruptive Group 6 – Illegal and Most Seriously Disruptive Consequences range from a conference all the way to expulsion

Bullying – What is it? Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to the students’ person or property Causes a substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health Substantially interfere with the student’s academic performance Substantially interferes with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by the school

Anti-Bullying Policy - Prohibited During any school sponsored or school sanctioned program or activity In school, on school property, on school buses or bus stops Through any cps network Any personal electronic device while on school property Threats that are to be carried out in any school setting – regardless of when the threat was made

AUDITORIUM/ASSEMBLY PRIDE Follow directions Use proper noise level Be courteous Khafooty-keep hands/feet to yourself Allow others to listen/learn Stay with your group/in your space Stay with your partner, pay attention to your surroundings

HALLWAY PRIDE Walk quietly in a straight line on the right side of hallway Khafooty, use level 0-1 voices Keep hallway clean Go straight to your destination You should have someone with you at all times.

CAFETERIA PRIDE Walk at all times Wait quietly in line to be served and to be dismissed Eat before socializing Use level 2-3 voices Khafooty Be ready with your lunch number Stay in your seat while eating Carry your tray with both hands

BATHROOM PRIDE Flush Wash your hands with soap and water Khafooty Give others privacy Keep feet on the floor Return to class promptly Always go with a partner Report any problems immediately

PLAYGROUND PRIDE Play fair and follow the rules Be a good sport and use kind words Take turns and share Khafooty Reports strangers to a supervisor/adult Dress for the weather Stay on school property at all times Talk only to staff wearing a school ID Keep track of your belongings

ATTENDANCE PRIDE In order to be successful, you must attend school every day. All students must be ready to enter the building by no later then 7:55 Staff members will be escorting students at 8:00 All CPS schools use attendance as part of the annual school rating.

UNIFORM PRIDE PALMER UNIFORM Baby blue or dark blue polo shirt with Palmer Logo is optional Navy khaki pants, knee length skirts and jumpers, solid colored tights may be worn underneath skirts or jumpers Knee length navy khaki shirts/capris can be worn during the months of September, October, May, and June There will be Spirit wear days throughout the year

Shoes and Socks Socks must be worn and the same color on both feet Laces must be tied and the same color on both feet Both shoes must be the same color and have a closed toe

ELECTRONICS Electronic Devices Cell phones, iPods, and other electronic devices need to be turned off and in your locker or left at home. If used during school, the first time we will return it to you, the second time it will be turned in to the office, anytime after that, they will be held until a parent comes to pick them up.

HARASSMENT If you verbally abuse, threaten, BULLY or harass a staff member or another student, you may be suspended out of school. Everyone has the right to feel safe and supported. Harassment will not be tolerated and could result in a suspension.

WEAPONS If you bring a weapon (or anything that looks like a weapon) on school property, you will be suspended from school, and the police will be involved. After investigation, suspension could lead to expulsion from school. Police called

ALCOHOL/DRUGS Use, possession, or distribution of alcohol/drugs or prescription medications on school property, including field trips or other school-sponsored events, will result in suspension, pending expulsion. Police called Will not be tolerated!!!!!!

COMPUTER PRIDE Failure to follow school and district policies may result in the loss of computer privileges at school. Computers must be used for school assigned projects only.

MEDS/SAFETY Students may not carry prescription or non-prescription medications at school. All medications must be stored and administered by school health office staff.

AFTER SCHOOL Students must leave the building by 3:20 p.m. unless you are involved in after school supervised activities. Students must sign up in advance through After School programming to participate in after school sports. All students must be under the supervision of a teacher/coach in order to be in the building.

REFERRAL PROCESS Staff member writes a referral Student conference with AP/Principal Consequence – student conference, parent conference, phone call home, ISS, OSS Expulsion, community service, etc. Progressive discipline Fair, Firm, Consistent Support you during this process and after, but you will be held accountable

PLEDGE State law requires all Illinois schools to recite the Pledge of Allegiance a minimum of one time per week. Anyone who does not wish to participate in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance for any personal reasons may elect not to do so and that students must respect another person's right to make that choice. Students who do not participate cannot be teased or harassed as a result of their decision.

STATE DRILLS Emergency Drills per year in all public schools These drills need to take place throughout the school year. There are three types of drills: ◦ Fire drills ◦ Lock down drills ◦ Take Cover drill

STATE DRILLS - Follow instructions given - Do so quietly and quickly - Stay as orderly as possible - Assist others who may need help - Follow instructions given - When relocated, stay together until told to move to another location
