Building Character Chapter 2 pg. 37-41 Objectives: 1. Students will know the importance of having good character. 2. Students will identify which area of character they need to improve on and set goals on how they will improve it.

Character The distinctive qualities that describe how a person thinks, feels, and behaves Helps to shape a person’s behavior A person with good character demonstrates core ethical values: Responsibility Honesty Integrity Respect

Character and Health Developing good character enhances each side of your health triangle

Developing your character Be trust worthy, honest, loyal, and reliable Use good manners and be considerate of others Be responsible and practice self-control Be open-minded and fair, and play by the rules Express gratitude; be forgiving, caring, and helpful Obey laws and rules, and respecting authority

Demonstrating character Stand up for your beliefs Learn from others Join a volunteer group either in your school or community Form friendships with others who share your in beliefs

Make a difference… At Home By showing respect and caring in daily actions, you will also strengthen your family relationships At School By observing school rules, and showing respect to your teachers and peers In Your Community By obeying laws, respecting the needs of others, and being tolerant of differences

Activity Identify a positive role model in your life who exhibits good character traits. Explain how he/she exhibits at least three traits of good character. Explain how this person has influenced you to demonstrate good character traits
