2 Test Lab Cryogenic Loads Cryomodule Test Facility (CMTF): Cryomodule cooldown, static, and RF heat loads. 4 to 6 week test cycle Vertical Test Area (VTA): SRF cavity testing, materials testing, component testing. 2 to 3 day test cycle Hall D Solenoid Testing Test Lab Service Supply LN2, N2, and He

3 12GeV Cryomodule Production Load Scheduling 1.The CTF can meet any foreseeable VTA load without a cryomodule in the CMTF. 2.The VTA runs at half-capacity on the day of a CMTF cryomodule cooldown. 3.The VTA is shut down the day of a CMTF cryomodule fill and two subsequent days are required for full CTF recovery (usually scheduled over a weekend). 4.With a cold cryomodule in the CMTF, the available CTF supply to the VTA will be 3/4 of scheduled demand. 5.To meet scheduled demand and improve efficiency, Cryo has proposed that a 10,000 L LHe dewar integrated with a properly designed sub-cooler be installed in place of the existing 3,800 L LHe Dewar.

4 12GeV Cryomodule Production Loads

5 Hall D Solenoid Testing 1.Physics is scheduled to test a superconducting solenoid beginning around July, 2010. A total of four tests are planned, each lasting approximately 3 weeks with 2-3 months between tests. 2.Static, dynamic, and cooldown loads are expected to resemble those of a cryomodule in the CMTF.\ 3.The LHe required for this testing will be supplied from CTF coldbox #3, dedicated to this load. Coldbox #2 will continue to supply VTA and CMTF as usual.

6 N2 Loads 1.Existing Test Lab 3000 gal dewar supplies warm gas and LN2 to the test lab. 2.Warm gas is used for test lab service distribution and EEL building. 3.LN2 is used for automated cryo-cycling or cold-shocking of production parts and for filling portable dewars. 4.LN2 is proposed for pre-cooling Hall D solenoid. Estimated load of 20 g/s for cooldown, 7 g/s static; CTF will supply this LN2. 5.Existing supply dewar must be refilled at least once per week to meet demands. Maintaining tanker truck access is important.

7 On The Horizon JLAMP, if funded, will look like an extension of the 12GeV production run ILC R&D should continue for the foreseeable future FRIB cavity production –Proposed cavity production scale larger than 12GeV –Quarter-wave structures may exceed the size capacity of all VTA dewars except D5 –Some cryomodules may exceed the height capacity of the CMTF Project X –Spoke cavities and ILC type elliptical cavities Injector Test Cave upgrade
