2  Science is our knowledge of all the living and nonliving things around us.  Technology is the application of scientific knowledge to solve human needs and problems, and improve the quality of life

3  Microscopes are used to view very small things such as plant and animal cells.  The types of microscopes are compound light microscopes and powerful electron microscopes.

4  Lasers are devices that concentrate light into an intense, narrow beam.  Computers, store barcode scanners, CD and DVD players. Surgeons use lasers to perform eye surgery and to control bleeding during surgery. They also use lasers to kill cancer cells and to cut and remove body tissue.

5  X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation that are used to create images of internal structures.  Doctors, dentists, and Geologists all use X-rays.

6  They are machines that are used to collect, store, organize, and analyze information.

7  Telescopes are instruments used to observe distant objects in the sky. They are used to better understand the universe.  Types of telescopes, optical (visible light), Radio (collects radio waves)

8  Artificial satellites are man-made objects that are placed into orbit by humans.  Types of satellites, Astronomy, Communication, Weather, Remote sensing

9  The Global Positioning System (GPS) consists of about 24 satellites that send signals to receivers on Earth. It provides accurate location and time information.

10  Seismographs, also called seismometers, measure and record motions of the ground.
