The Bill of Rights What you need to know for the test ~ Packet Page 16 You will be writing down the parts of the amendment that you will need to know for the test, not necessarily everything that is covered in each amendment.

First Amendment Freedom of Religion Freedom of Speech Freedom of the Press Freedom of Assembly Freedom to Petition the government

Second Amendment The right to bear arms Right of states to have a militia

Third Amendment The government can’t force citizens to quarter (house) soldiers

Fourth Amendment No unreasonable search and seizure (search warrant)

Fifth Amendment A person can not be made to testify against oneself A person can not be tried twice for the same crime (double jeopardy) Property can not be taken from a person without due process of the law

Sixth Amendment Right to an attorney Speedy trial Right to know what crime you’ve been charged with Right to know the witnesses

Seventh Amendment Jury to decide on civil cases

Eighth Amendment No cruel or unusual punishment No excessive bail
10
Ninth Amendment People have more rights than what are listed in the Constitution
11
Tenth Amendment The states and the people have any rights that the Constitution does not give to Congress
