The audience can be anyone from amateur to professional. Someone who does not know how to change the background settings Someone who can navigate the desktop to find the start button or a person who prefers to use keystrokes
4
The content was specific to the individual task It did not deviate to unrelated tasks It was clear, direct and well structured The graphics and screen shots were used only when necessary
5
Table format Chronological order Steps were listed as either › Key board action or › Mouse action Font size was about 14pt. Arial A screen shot was used Very well organized
7
The language is for a general audience. - Formal structure. - Not too technical. Basic terms that the average user can understand and follow. The tutorial was not very interesting because the tone was formal, but it was written by Microsoft for a specific purpose and the purpose was served.
8
The tutorial was: › Clear › Easy to follow › Brief but precise › All steps were included
9
Screen shots Sentence structure format Limitation of unnecessary steps Formal sentences, because the action is immediate
10
The tutorial was useful because it gave us good examples of how to structure sentences for a manual. It showed that when writing manuals for computer applications, key strokes as well as mouse actions can be utilized. The layout that they chose allows users that typically use mouse actions to try key strokes which can be useful.
11
The screen shots were limited but used at the appropriate time. Screen shots can also be a deterrent. All steps were included in the process. The tense was present which allowed immediate action. It is a good example of writing for a manual.
