Convection/Conduction/Radiation Lab (Marshmallow Lab)  Radiant energy from the sun can be reflected and concentrated on an object. A portion of the radiant energy absorbed by an object is in the form of thermal energy (heat).  The flaps on the Pringles can will be used to reflect radiant energy onto the marshmallow, thus concentrating the amount of energy that will be converted into heat.

 Convection –is the heat cycle in the Pringles tube around the marshmallow. It is moving heat!  Conduction –is the heat we would feel if we touched the cooked marshmallow. Contact heat.

Convection/Conduction/Radiation Lab (Marshmallow Lab)  Safety precautions: ~ heat lamps get hot, so be careful when handling all items in the lab. (conduction= touch it will hurt!) ~ bamboo skewers are pointy, sharp edge caution ~ not edible food lab, do not eat! WASH HANDS BEFORE & AFTER!!

Convection/Conduction/Radiation Lab (Marshmallow Lab)  Procedure: 1) work in group to set up lamp and cooking area. 2) pull off plastic lid of cooker while holding the skewer. 3) Mrs. Koop will put marshmallow on skewer (wearing gloves) 4) stick marshmallow skewer back into can, making sure plastic lid is securely back on. 5) when directed, turn on heat lamp and place can within close proximity to lamp.

Let’s review! 1)Return to your group 2)Check for completed cooking results. 3)CLEAN UP LAB get it ready for next group 4) Complete LAB paper Try cooking a hotdog!
