8. En tus palabras…. In your own words… ¿Qué es un cognado? (What is a cognate?) Es una palabra en ambos inglés y español que se deletrea similar y su significación es semejante. It is a word in both English and in Spanish that is spelled similarly and has the same meaning.

11. There are many Spanish cognates that end in -ción. The equivalent English word ends in - tion. Note that all of these words have the stress on the final syllable. 13. Words that in in -dad are quite common in Spanish. They usually correspond to an English word that ends in -ty. 14. English words than end in –ent often have a cognate in Spanish that ends in – ente.
