A German soldier that fought against American rebels. The townspeople say that he is is the Headless Horseman. Sleepy HollowDutch The name of the valley where the story takes place. Tarry Town in the name of the town. The people who settled in N.Y were Dutch. At the time of S.H., the Dutch were the prominent people in the area. Many superstitions are Dutch.

The SH legend says that if the Headless Horseman is chasing you through the woods, he will disappear at the church bridge. Whew! New York KnicksDiedrich Knickerbocker In the olden days, New Yorkers were called “Knickerbockers.” Later the basketball team was called the N.Y. Knickerbockers and later the Knicks for short. Was made up by W. Irving. Placed missing person ads for him to pay his hotel bill. If he didn’t pay, Irving was going to publish his manuscripts.

Traditional beliefs, practices and legends that people tell orally. 1820Diedrich Knickerbocker When the book was written. The fictional narrator of Irving’s works,the name has become a nickname for Manhattan residents in general.

11. 3-Died before the Civil War. 2-Wrote under a pen name of Diedrich Knickerbaker. 1-This legend features the Headless Horseman- who is thought to be a soldier who lost his head to a cannon ball in the Revolutionary War. He rides nightly near the battle of the scene in quest of his head!
