What we’ll achieve – spread good practice Disseminate good practice in delivering environmentally sustainable developments across the south west: enable those involved in the construction industry to learn from the experience of others help reduce costs for future developments

What we’ll achieve – recognising excellence Recognise housing associations, private developers and local councils delivering projects to standards in excess of current statutory environmental requirements

What we’ll achieve – positive publicity Gain positive publicity for new housing developments, and potentially assist in delivery of planning permissions for proposed new schemes and delivery of new homes

What we’ll achieve – Reinforcing Commitment Reinforce the commitment that the South West Regional Assembly and others have made to ensuring that development of new housing in the south west is delivered in a sustainable manner

What are we looking for? High environmental standard/cost ratio Innovative technologies manufactured or developed in the South West. High levels of customer/occupier satisfaction. Sustainable procurement methods/construction techniques. Use techniques, technology and methods that can be repeated

3 Awards Proposed Best small sustainable development site (<15 houses.) Best large sustainable development site (> 15 houses). Best sustainable refurbishment scheme of an existing property.

Who would administer the awards? Involved at each stage: Preparation Decision Making Follow up

Creating Excellence - Preparation Creating Excellence will help us: make this award distinct from other regional/national ‘sustainability’ awards devise assessment criteria

Creating Excellence – Decision Making Receive and process applications Assess each application against criteria Supply judging panel with report on each application Bring together a high profile, knowledgeable and experienced Panel to judge the awards.

Creating Excellence – Follow Up Contribute to a final ‘manual’ detailing: Winners Any innovative practice identified from other applications

Timetable Awards would cover schemes completed in the financial year 2008/9 Benchmark – EcoHomes ‘Excellent’ standard Applications open early 2009 Awards made spring/summer 2009 Final good practice manual available from September 2009
