Increased Emphasis on Credential Opportunities for Students Carl Perkins Act has tied federal funding to credential opportunities for students NC Legislature set aside funds for student credentials

Why are credentials important? Fifty-five percent of hiring managers consider employee certification as a criteria for hiring and 46% of hiring managers consider employee certification as a criteria for promotion Industry-recognized credentials ensure that North Carolina students graduate from high school globally competitive for work and postsecondary education with validated 21st century skills Credentialing makes a difference for NC high school students Validates knowledge of skill attainment Increases student confidence Often means higher earning potential Opens the door for networking in a career field Sets students apart from the competition Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning

What can you do? Recognize students who are earning credentials Recognize teachers who are giving credential opportunities to students Ask teachers if they are giving students credential opportunities Ask teachers if they have earned the credential and make a part of the PGP if they have not. Make credential data a part of the conversation during teacher observation conferences and/or evaluations Other Ideas?
