While you are waiting for me to begin, please write a letter to your child on the back of the “Back to School Letter!” I know they will look forward to reading your note when they get to school in the morning tomorrow!

Super Flex Program- Encouraging positive behaviors by achieving expected behaviors. (school-wide) Our Mission Board: We came up with the “expected” behaviors in our classroom. Individual behavior sheets- sent home daily in the back of students’ folders. Weekly rewards for attaining the expected behaviors! Over the weekend, please sign the behavior sheet and send back on Monday! “TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT. DO THE RIGHT THING.”

Students will receive letter grades for Reading, Writing, and Math. Students will receive O, S, N, and U for Conduct and Social Sciences. I will update PowerSchool weekly, so you can keep track of your child’s grades throughout the 9 weeks.

Homework Read with your child 15 min. nightly (Reading Log) Leveled Packet (Due every Friday) Occasionally math review tests and other activities might be sent home for extra practice before assessments. Please remember that homework is your child’s responsibility, not yours. Agenda Students write homework assignments and reminders in their agendas daily. Please check the agenda each night and sign. Agendas should be brought back to school every day. This provides a good communication tool between the teacher and parent.

Your child will be assessed weekly on the skills that we practiced during the week. (Reading, Grammar, Word Study, and Math) We will have NWEA testing three times a year. We will have DIBELS (ORF) and phonics as on- going assessments. Three times a year the students will take a Math Benchmark Assessment.

Lists will not be sent home. There will be a word study pretest given at the beginning of each unit. Students who do not master the skills will practice them in word study centers. Students who have mastered the skills will work on a Word Study Contract that will challenge the current and upcoming skills.

What skills we will work on: 1. Decoding skills 2. Fluency 3. Vocabulary 4. Comprehension Throughout the week, I split the students into differentiated reading groups and stations to improve their reading skills.

Our math block set up: 1. Start with problem of the day/ reteaching 2. Guided instruction on the new math concept 3. Hands-on experiences to help understand the new skills 4. Independent Practice 5. Review math centers are included in the week Students will participate in Rocket Math two times a week!

1. Word Study Find words that rhyme with spelling patterns Locate spelling patterns in books, magazines, and newspapers. Use letter tiles to make new words using word families. 2. Math Have your child pay for objects at the store. Practice telling time. Practice basic addition and subtraction facts. 3. Reading READ! READ! READ! DISCUSS! DISCUSS! DISCUSS!

Avon Schools will offer flexible Parent-Teacher Conferences To minimize inconvenience and maintain communication with our families, ACSC will offer flexible schedules for K-6 Parent-Teacher conferences during the 2015-16 school year. The traditional Parent- Teacher conference week has been eliminated and replaced with two opportunities to meet during the first semester. Meet during one of the one-hour delays on Wednesday, October 7 th or Wednesday, November 4 th. Another opportunity to meet is on the afternoon of November 3 rd. -Sign up sheet in the back. 2 nd option is to meet during a teacher’s prep, before, or after school. These conferences are to be requested by the parent or teacher at a mutually agreed upon time. Conferences may take place in person, on the telephone or via Skype/Face Time/ or similar venues.
