QW- W HAT ARE WAVES ?
3
W AVES Waves can be made several different ways: the wind, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, even the moon can cause them! What are they? They are energy that has been released into the water. Some are larger than others. What type of wave can cause destruction?
4
W HAT ARE THEY ? Our oceans have been here for about 4.5 billion years. The earth was a different place beyond that. Volcanoes covered the surface. Eventually the earth cooled enough so that water vapor could turn into liquid water. The salt in the volcanic ash mixed in and formed the oceans. They make up 71% of the earth’s surface. They are made up of salt water. They separate our continents.
5
W HERE ARE THEY ? There are 4 major oceans. Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic and Indian.
6
W HY THE SALT ? The sea salt comes from rivers and streams that pick it up along the way. The ocean water evaporates leaving the salt behind for more water.
