Content Location of resort Rationale Resort facilities Bibliography
3
Location
4
Concerns Mamam Beach Destructive waves (30 waves/min) Inadequate land space
6
Curbing destructive waves Seawalls ◦ Prevent erosion by providing barrier ◦ Low maintenance, very durable Groynes Effective and inexpensive Aesthetically
7
Land Space Tap into trekking trails Cut down trees (for furniture)
8
Rationale Sea walls to curb destructive waves Little developments on the beach Least rustic looking environment Most suitable location/beach in Ubin
9
Why Mamam Beach? Noordin beach ◦ Used to be a graveyard Many rumors of spiritual sightings ◦ Dangdut music blaring away from Malaysian side on Saturday nights ◦ NPCC Campsite ◦ Most environmentally unfriendly place in Ubin
12
Why Mamam Beach? Chek Jawa ◦ Ecological reserve ◦ High tides ◦ Potentially harmful marine creatures (e.g. stone fish)
13
Our Resort Currently there are no holiday resorts for tourists due to lack of energy -our green resort will provide tourists with self sufficient, renewable and clean energy Pulau Ubin does not draw electricity from Singapore’s main power grid -too expensive to lay transmission cables just for a small demand -About 100 villagers rely on energy from diesel generators
14
Energy Source Solar energy ◦ Solar technology readily available in Singapore ◦ Situated on the roofs of villas ◦ Energy used to power light bulbs and air conditioning Reduces the use of electricity from fossil fuels as much as possible
15
Materials Main structure - Concrete - Will be proportionately surrounded by greenery - Practical - Will not stand out too glaringly Furniture - Parquet wood - Preserves the rustic environment of Ubin - More eco-friendly
17
What Our Resort Will Have Facilities ◦ Rooms that use the HVAC system Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning ◦ Fluorescent lamps and motion sensor Transportation ◦ Bicycles with generators ◦ Mass eco-friendly tram system Accommodation ◦ Room policy ◦ Recycling bins in the room Dining
18
Facilities Whole hotel that use the HVAC system ◦ HVAC: Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Regular ventilation of air Reduces energy wasted for air-conditioning Additional use of thermostat will save energy because it can automatically control temperature
19
Facilities Fluorescent lamps and motion sensors Fluorescent lamps ◦ Not like conventional light bulbs with tungsten ◦ Uses 75-80% less energy Motion Sensors ◦ Light and air-conditioning start only when human movement is detected
20
Transportation Bicycles with generators For tourists who like to cycle Bicycle with have generator ◦ Kinetic energy produced from cycling can be stored ◦ When tourists get tired they can activate generator and bicycle will move on its own
21
Transportation Mass Eco-friendly Tram System Tram that runs on solar energy Tram will go around Ubin according to a system Tourists stop at the place they want to
22
Rooms Room Policy No eco-friendly devices will be placed in rooms (for private preferences) Instead the room policy ensures that energy is used only when guests are in their room (card system)
23
Rooms Recycling bins in the rooms Bins will be divided into paper, plastic, metal This system of classifying waste will ensure easier recycling Encourage guests to recycle
24
Dining Organic food schemes(Optional) Rearing of animals produces a lot of methane, contrasting from the growing of plants Having more vegetarian dishes equates to less consumption of meat ◦ Therefore less methane is produced
