Objectives of the projects To enhance teachers’ understanding of the role of language in learning To arouse teachers’ awareness of the necessity of teaching their subject language To support teachers with theoretical underpinnings and effective pedagogies To bring about collaboration between language teachers and subject teachers

Course details Time Total commitment by teachers Between Workshop Activities Language and Literacy School decides, although one workshop every other week is the suggested schedule 54 hours 3 hours per module for a total of 27 hours 9 workshops @ 3 hours per module for a total of 27 hours Teaching ESL Students in Mainstream Classrooms School decides, although one workshop every other week is the suggested schedule 50 hours 2-3 hours per module for a total of 25 hours 9 workshops @ 2-3 hours per module for a total of 25 hours Workshops 5/6-day intensive tutor-training course

Support provided by the Project Team Pre-course visit Workshop visits Co-planning Sharing sessions for tutors Dissemination of good workshop-practice Submission of action plan Sharing sessions of good classroom-practice

Who should take the 2 tutor-training courses? EMI Any teacher using EMI, whether in EMI or CMI schools

Who should take the teacher development courses? EMI Mathematics, science and humanities teachers using EMI, whether in EMI or CMI schools
