2 I want to get some information about the Yaroslavl State University. I am a school-leaver and it’s very actual for me to learn about the University as much as possible. My dream is to enter to the Yaroslavl State University, I want to be a computer programmer. So it’s very interesting for me to know more about the University.

3 Pavel Demidov Pavel Demidov (Pavel Grigoryevich Demidov, 1738-1821) — the famous Russian manufacturer, scientist in natural science, full state councilor, patron, founder of the Demidov Law Lyceum in Yaroslavl (today – the Yaroslavl State University).

4 Originally founded in 1803 as the Demidov Lyceum with 11 students, the institution was enlarged to a "Juridical Lyceum" about a century later. Soon after this enlargement, by order of Vladimir Lenin, it was enlarged again to Yaroslavl State University (YSU) on August 7, 1918. The reorganization was very difficult as it was the period of the Russian Civil War. During the first two years 29 departments were opened including medical, agronomic, pedagogical and law faculties as well as an evening school for working men and women. History of founding

5 History of university Yaroslavl State University is both one of the youngest and one of the oldest universities in Russia. It was born twice - in 1918 and in 1970. Its history began in 1803, when the noble, P. G. Demidov, founded the Academy of Higher Sciences in his native town of Yaroslavl on the Volga River. Later the Academy was renamed the Demidov Lyceum. On the September 1, 1970, Yaroslavl University opened its doors again to new 300 students. On February, 21 1995 by the decree of the Governor of Yaroslavl region Anatoly Ivanovich Lisitsin Yaroslavl State University was given the name of its founder Pavel Grigoryevich Demidov.

6 The demidov column A memorial dedicated to Pavel Demidov – the Demidov Column – was erected in Yaroslavl in March 1829, and reconstructed in 2005.

7 I’ve known some interesting facts about the Yaroslavl State University. These facts are very useful for me. It helped me to find out the history of the University. I hope it will help me to enter to this University, to get good knowledge and become a great specialist.
