SLS AREA REPORT May 20045 SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS 1.SLS-RFM WG (2) Problems and Issues (1) Status of Rec 2.4.18 Mod & Coding for High rate P/L TM Raised blue June 2001 with 2 caveats: Requires use of 8PSK TCM if SFCG max BW cannot be met with ‘conventional modulations’ Points to Rec 2.4.1 for conventional modulations which may be used if SFCG rec met Principle contents of Rec 2.4.1 agreed at the time SFCG abandoned the idea of max BW in the 8GHz band. Usage of the band still under discussion. No consensus at this meeting on contents of rec 2.4.1. No Rec 2.4.1 in the BB

SLS AREA REPORT May 20049 CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES None
10
SLS AREA REPORT May 200410 OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS A.Need Agency support, i.e. resources to supply downlink transfer frame accountability reports to share amongst agencies to determine what FeC codes CCSDS should recommend. B.SLS-SLP to provide SANA with link layer parameters and requirements, which require standardization by SANA.
11

12
SLS AREA REPORT May 200412 SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS 5.SLS- C&S WG Goals: - Develop recommended coding schemes with high power and spectral efficiency, with low decoding complexity. - LDPCC Orange Book Working Status: Active _X__ Idle ____ Summary progress: Progress since last meeting: see next page. Problems and Issues: see next page. status:OKCAUTIONPROBLEM comment:No Consensus
13
SLS AREA REPORT May 200413 OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS (1/2) Several technical contribution to this meeting (CNES, GSFC, ESOC/UniBo, ESTEC/Polito, JPL); Three Different proposals tabled –NASA/GSFC Quasi-Cyclic LDPCC –NASA/JPL Protograph LDPCC –CNES support to DVB-S2 NO CONSENSUS Chair remark: WG not justified any more in such a case Migration to BOF or complete stop?
14
SLS AREA REPORT May 200414 Member Agencies recognize the difficult status without consensus and take proactive approach. Principle agreement for a set of “agreeable” codes reached. Codes shall be evaluated by BOF work and eventually generate consensus proposal for WG. Resolutions: –C&S WG objectives redirected to solely produce/approve LDPCC Orange Book –LDPCC BOF creation. OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS (2/2)
15
SLS AREA REPORT May 200415 OBJECTIVES & SCHEDULE OF LDPCC BOF 1.Identify requirements. 2.Define a Benchmark Matrix. By Fall 2004 3.Identify a set of Quasi-Cyclic LDPCC for frames of (approx) 8 & 16k bits (desirable 32k). 4.Select the proposed family by proper benchmarking. By Spring 2005 (Initial results) By Fall 2005 (Finalized results) ACTIONS 1.Update SLS-C&S charter 2.Produce SLS-LDPCC BOF charter
16
SLS AREA REPORT May 200416 SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS 6.SLS- TCC WG Goal: Develop a Telecommand Channel Coding Green Book. Working Status: Active ___ Idle _X___ Summary progress: Progress since last meeting: ESA informed that resources can be committed to lead the work. Problems and Issues: NASA informed that complementary resources may be available. This is to be confirmed. Work can only start when both resources are confirmed. status:OKCAUTIONPROBLEM comment:Resources
17
SLS AREA REPORT May 200417 SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS 7.SLS- LEC BOF Goal: Make, if conclusive, a proposal for the creation of a WG on application of long erasure-correction codes. Working Status: Active _X__ Idle ____ Summary progress: Progress since last meeting: Input provided by ESA/ESOC/UniBO. ESA/ESOC and NASA/JPL ready to collaborate. Problems and Issues: New task for Transfer Frames Loss statistics. Invitation for other CCSDS Areas (e.g. Systems Engineering) may be useful in Fall 2004 Meeting. status:OKCAUTIONPROBLEM comment: As per updated charter New task & schedule Resources in 2005
18
SLS AREA REPORT May 200418 SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS 8.SLS-DC WG Goal : specify an image compression algorithm fulfilling identified space mission requirements Working Status: Active _X_ Idle ____ Summary progress: Progress since last meeting : specification brought to a “near” red book status (spring meeting taking place 17-19 may) Problems and Issues : develop an open source reference software from source code provided by agencies : IPR issues status:OKCAUTIONPROBLEM comment: Proceeding according to charter with approx. 6 months delay
19
SLS AREA REPORT May 200419 Finalize coding and formating details according to trade-offs results and performances analysis (only minor algorithmic features are still pending) Review white book and update according to decisions made at meeting, with the objective of outputting red-1 within 1 month after meeting. Review simulation softwares development status : 3 independent softwares Check compliance with final white book Initiate development of reference software, whose objectives are : Enable “prospect” missions teams to evaluate CCSDS algorithm performances for real mission data Later, to enable implementation compliance with published recommendation OBJECTIVES OF SPRING (ON-GOING) MEETING
20
SLS AREA REPORT May 200420 NONE CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES
21
SLS AREA REPORT May 200421 OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS A. Production and distribution of open source reference software for : algorithm performance simulation Implementation conformance verification Will be assembled from source codes provided by various agencies IPR issues : should be resolved by generic software license produced by CNES in the frame of this WG. License already used between NASA and CNES for source code exchange needed to assemble one of the simulation software presently used for algorithm development and specification cross-checking
22
SLS AREA REPORT May 200422 OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS B. Resources needed for green book production : Objective is to output green book together with blue book Resources availability still questionable to match this timing objectives.
23
SLS AREA REPORT May 200423 PROPOSED RESOLUTIONS AND ACTIONS FOR CESG/CMC APPROVAL RESOLUTION 1 (to come) Pending successful completion of spring meeting objectives, WG will likely propose resolution for : Upgrading “image compression white book” to red-1 status
24
SLS AREA REPORT May 200424 PROPOSED RESOLUTIONS AND ACTIONS FOR CESG/CMC APPROVAL RESOLUTION 1 (from SLS-RFM) RFM WG resolves to submit editorially updated recommendations to CCSDS Editor via SLS AD for incorporation into 401; RESOLUTION 2 (from SLS-RFM) RFM WG resolves to submit Pink Sheet 2.4.10 for Agency Review via SLS AD RESOLUTION 3 (from SLS-RNG) RNG WG resolves to submit Pink Sheet 2.5.6B for Agency Review RESOLUTION 4 (from SLS-Prox-1-Build-2) Prox-1-Build-2 WG resolves to submit final pink sheets to CESG of Prox-1 Data Link Layer and Prox-1 Physical Layer in order to reissue new versions of these blue books
