Executive Producer Provides the funding necessary to produce the program Rarely steps foot on the set Involved in every aspect of production Could have more than one I AM THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER IN THE TV & FILM ACADEMY

Producer In non-news environment ◦Purchases materials and services needed to create a finished program ◦Hires director, designers, etc (and the talent) ◦Arranges travel and transportation ◦Needs extreme attention to detail In a news environment ◦Coordinates content and flow of a newscast ◦Writes “teasers” ◦Could have several producers (sports, entertainment, etc) ◦Producers work for the News Director

News Director Responsible for the structure of the newsroom ◦Performance evaluations, hiring and firing ◦Managing budget Final authority on which stories will air

Director In charge of creative aspects of the program ◦Interacts with the entire staff Reviews program’s script and visualizes entire production Coordinates and manages the staff and cast to keep production schedule

Production Manager Production Manager: ◦Handles the business portion Negotiates fees for good, services and other contracts Determines staff requirements ◦Ensures that programs and scripts conform to established broadcast standards

Production Assistant In film ◦Jack-of-all trades, but master of none ◦“Gofer” ◦Most people begin their career as a PA In television production ◦Interchangeable with assistant director (AD) ◦Provides general assistance around the studio or production facility

Floor Manager AKA Floor Director Director’s Eyes and Ears Relays directors commands to the studio personnel (except camera operators) Only person (other than director) who may say “Cut”

Camera Operator Runs the piece of equipment that captures the video image Responsible for framing shots that are visually pleasing

Photographer AKA “Photog” Cameraperson who goes into the field on location with a reporter Responsible for ◦Transporting the camera, tripod and mic ◦All cabling ◦Batteries ◦Setting up and tearing down equipment

Photojournalist Photographer who regularly performs duties of photographer and reporter

Reporter Gathers information for news stories Researches and interviews Writes Edits

Assignment Editor Schedules equipment and personnel to cover stories Pairs reporters with photogs
