2. What are fossils? A fossil is a plant or animal that has turned to stone. How are fossils formed?

3. First, the fish dies. The fish falls to the bottom of the ocean and gets buried.

4. Then, flesh rots and starts to decompose. After, the skin rots only the hard parts are left.

5. Then, the layers harden. The minerals replace the bone.

6. Then, more dirt will bury the animal. The earth’s surface changed.

7. Finally, the bones become a fossil.

8. Fossils are very old.
