5 What are fossils? Fossils are the remains of dead plants and animals. Fossils can help tell us about the past events of earth.

6 Fossils Most fossils are found in sedimentary rock. Once the original organisms died, they became trapped in sediments, which over time hardens into rocks. This is an example

7 What is preserved? The most likely materials to survive fossilisation are shells and objects constructed from resistant materials, such as Coral. Softer materials survive only when conditions are extremely favorable.

8 Fossil Developed The earliest fossils of complex life date from around 600 million years ago bacteria may have existed up to 3 billion years earlier. dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago!
