Classic Rock = Igneous Rock Igneous rock is like classic rock because it is formed from volcanic activity, the classic way of forming rock. Igneous rock is either: – Intrusive – formed from magma cooled underground – Extrusive – formed from volcanic activity

Hard Rock = Metamorphic Rock Metamorphic rock is like hard rock because it is layered / changed over time through heat and pressure Metamorphic rocks are categorized as: – Foliated = banded (e.g. slate) – Nonfoliated = non-banded (e.g. marble)

Three types of Rock Sedimentary Rock = Punk Rock

Punk Rock = Sedimentary Rock Sedimentary rock is like punk rock because it is formed by various materials deposited in rock. Sedimentary rock is classified as: – Clastic – fragments (e.g. sandstone) – Chemical – has precipitates (e.g. limestone) – Bioclastic – contains skeletal fragments (e.g. fossils)
