Prefixes There are three different word parts – prefixes, roots, suffixes that are used to construct words. If you know the meaning of the individual parts, you can figure out the meaning of a word. Ex: invisible Prefix – in means “not” Root – vis means “to see” Suffix – ible means “capable of being seen” Word – invisible means “not capable of being seen”
