Origin Nitinol is an acronym for Nickel Titanium Naval Ordnance Laboratories It was developed by William Buehler and Frederick Wang A shape memory alloy is an alloy that “remembers” its shape. Nickel-Titanium alloys were first developed in 1962 and 1963.
