Timing Factors BJ: Play clock violations. SJ: Responsible for accuracy of the game clock and all timing situations (time out, following scores, media time outs) Play clock violations FJ: Secondary responsibility

Injured / Bleeding Player BJ: Observe Team B’s huddle SJ: Observe Team B’s huddle FJ: Observe Team B’s huddle After play, summon trainer. Removed player has to sit out 1 play before returning. Blood must be removed from uniform as well.

Concussion Symptoms Pg 96 in rule book. Treat player as injured player. Must sit out 1 play before returning to the game.

Conferences Same as time out procedure. Referee must have an official with him.

Measurements BJ: Go to down marker on Linesman’s side of field and assume sideline responsibilities. Check down on box. No team attendants on the field. New series: spot down marker. Short: return to your position. SJ: Monitor team on your sideline. FJ: Monitor team on your sideline.

Reporting fouls Identify foul Identify offending team including jersey color, offense/ defense, kicking/ receiving team. Identify offending player’s number or position. Indicate spot of foul, end of run or end of kick. Indicate status of ball when foul occurred.

Dead Ball Definition of a ‘dead ball’ Simply a ball not in play. The interval between downs. The clock can be running or stopped.

Intermission (Half Time) BJ – Responsible for notifying the visiting team coach at 5 min mark. FJ – Responsible for watching team when they return. SJ – Responsible for timing intermission. Responsible for watching team when they return.

Spot of Snap Designations The captain may choose to free kick or snap anywhere between the hash marks on the yard line through the spot of a fair catch or awarded fair catch. (6- 5-4)

Time Factors- Errors in Timing Can be human or mechanical error Must be readily evident Results in acknowledged discrepancy Reasonably able to determine time Note time of clock during dead ball intervals. Monitor closely if problems arise.

Fouls/ Penalty Enforcement Dead Ball Fouls Sound Whistle and Toss penalty marker (not higher than head). DO NOT ALLOW the play to start. Immediately Give the Timeout Signal. If it’s another official’s flag, cover flag if it is in your area.

Fouls/ Penalty Enforcement Live Ball Fouls Observe foul, Withhold Whistle, and Drop penalty marker at proper yard line. Continue Officiating When Ball becomes dead, Give the Timeout Signal. Report the foul to the Referee. Do not give a visible signal.

Fouls/ Penalty Enforcement Penalty Enforcement Stay clear of spot of foul. Ensure Umpire marks correct direction and distance. Avoid visiting while penalty is being assessed. Write down all unsportsmanlike conduct fouls.

Overtime Procedure Prior to Coin Toss All officials meet in the center of the field and discuss how penalties (if there are any) will be assessed. This is a 3 minute Intermission. Each team get 1 timeout.

Overtime Procedure The winner of the coin toss will get the choice of offense, defense, on a particular end. The loser get the remaining choice. Each team will get one series of downs. The offense will put the ball in play on the defense’s 10 yard line (unless OT started with a penalty). After the offense finishes it’s series of downs, the team on defense will then be on offense for a series of downs.

Overtime Procedure The goal line is always the line to gain. When the defense gains control of the ball, the series ends immediately. The offense can get a new series of downs : Defensive pass interference Roughing passer, snapper, holder, kicker Blocked kick touched by defense beyond neutral zone and recover by offense

Overtime Procedure Field goal attempts may be attempted on any down. Post scrimmage kicks are not applicable to the OT procedure.. If the game remains tied after each team has one series of downs, the OT procedure will be repeated until a winner is determined (with a 2 minute intermission). But no more coin tosses.

Legal Ball and Use A tan-colored cover One set of 8 or 12 evenly spaced laces A continuous 1 in white or yellow stripe 3 to 3 ¼ inches from the end. Only 2 panels will have the stripe. Weighs between 14 and 15 ounces Inflated pressure of 12 ½ to 13 ½ psi. SHALL INCLUDE the NHFS AUTHENTICATING MARK.

Handling the Team Box FJ and SJ has secondary responsibility for the team box. (BJ can help if needed). Team Box is from the 25 to the 25, 2 yard off the sideline. Restricted Area is between the team box and the sideline. No one can legally be in the restricted area during a live ball.

Weather Issues Develop an evacuation plan and identify nearby shelters. When thunder is heard or a cloud-to-ground lightning bolt is seen, suspend play and take shelter immediately. 30 Minute Rule. Once play has been suspended, wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder/lightning is witnessed to resume play. Any subsequent thunder/lightning restarts the clock. Keep both coaches informed as best as possible

Unique and Emergency Situations Injuries: Prolonged Power Loss: Both Coaches and Game Administration Fighting: Try to stop, if unable: Step back and record numbers. Official goes down: Bring ECO down if capable. Change to 5 man mechanics
