OBJECTIVES: 1.DEFINE RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS 2. DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS 3. EXPLAIN THE FOUR TYPES OF FRIENDSHIPS 4. IDENTIFY WHY A GOOD SELF-ESTEEM IS IMPORTANT IN DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS.

RELATIONSHIPS: BOND OR CONNECTION YOU HAVE WITH OTHER PEOPLE. You may have relationships with: family members friends teachers classmates Many of these relationships change over time. On your piece of paper, write down everything you think you want in a personal relationship. Examples: honesty, trust, friendship

RELATIONSHIPS CAN PROVIDE SUPPORT. THEY CAN HELP BUILD CONFIDENCE AND DEVELOP A SENSE OF BELONGING. HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF AFFECTS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS.

A HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM IS IMPORTANT IN DEVELOPING A GOOD RELATIONSHIP. IT ALLOWS FOR A DEEPER CONNECTION WITH OTHERS. SELF ESTEEM- OPINION PEOPLE HAVE OF THEMSELVES. FOCUS ON POSITIVE ASPECTS OF YOURSELF, AND REPLACE NEGATIVE SELF-TALK WITH SUPPORTIVE SELF-TALK.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP: 1. MUTUAL RESPECT- WHAT IS THIS? HOW CAN WE SHOW THIS? 2. COMMUNICATION- VERBAL/NONVERBAL 3. EMPATHY- HOW CAN WE SHOW THIS? 4. TRUST 5. ACTIVE LISTENER 6. HONEST

FRIENDSHIPS: SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE BASED ON TRUST, CARING AND CONSIDERATION. 4 TYPES OF FRIENDSHIPS: 1. CASUAL – SHARE INTERESTS BUT NOT A DEEP EMOTIONAL TIE. 2. CLOSE- OFFER SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT. 3. PLATONIC- FRIEND SHIP WITH A MEMBER OF THE OPPOSITE SEX. 4. ONLINE- THESE CAN BE DANGEROUS, WHY? (CYBER-BULLYING)

What is it? Harassment/bullying that occurs on the internet. Examples: Nasty forum posts Name calling in chat rooms Posting fake profiles Mean/cruel messages Cyber-bulling PSA Clip

CLIQUES-WHAT ARE THEY? SMALL CIRCLE OF FRIENDS, USUALLY WITH SIMILAR BACKGROUNDS OR TASTES WHO EXCLUDE PEOPLE VIEWED AS OUTSIDERS. DURING YOUR TEEN YEARS YOU MAY START TO THINK ABOUT DATING. DATING RELATIONSHIPS CAN BE A GREAT WAY TO KNOW SOMEONE.
