3 III. DEFINITIONS OF VIOLATIONS A. CHEATING. Intentionally using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information, notes, study aids or other devices in any academic exercise. This definition includes unauthorized communication of information during an academic exercise. B. FABRICATION AND FALSIFICATION. Intentional and unauthorized alteration or invention of any information or citation in an academic exercise. 4 Collect the Evidence Contact the Dean of Students Office Verify Prior Offenses First Offense Meet with Student and Present the Evidence Action Warranted – Settlement Procedure

5 Fill Out Settlement Form with Penalty Student has 72 Hours to Consider Student Accepts and Signs Form in Presence of Faculty Member Send Copy to Dean of Students Office Kept on File for Five Years

6 Student Declines Penalty or Penalty is Greater than an F in the Course Faculty Contacts Chair of the AIB AIB Hearing is conducted Second or Greater Offense or Penalty is Greater than an F in the Course Faculty Contacts Chair of the AIB AIB Hearing is conducted

7 Settlement Procedure Penalties a. formal warning b. a reduced grade for the assignment c. a reduced grade for the entire course Second Offenses and Some First Offenses d. Disciplinary suspension from the University for a designated period of time. e. A grade of "F" or "U" with a designation "X" on the academic transcript indicating that this is because of dishonesty. (Time Specified)
