International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from Presentation “Spatial Diversity for IEEE 802.11p V2V Safety Broadcast in a Highway Environment” Main Issues: Optimization of WAVE transmission performances for Emergency Messages (EM) in interference conditions generated by Periodic status Messages (PM). Conclusion: Simulation demonstrates that the combination of MIMO antenna with STBC (Space Time Block Codes) leads to a significant improvement.

Main issues: Multimedia services continuity and efficiency across micro-cells for fast moving terminals. Conclusion: Introduction of the « Logical Macro cell » LMC concept and a parallel polling mechanism to make resources reservation and so prepare for an efficient handover.

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Highlights from Presentation “Opportunistic Vehicular Networks by Satellite Links for Safety Applications” Main Issues: Communication of isolated vehicles or clusters of vehicles moving in areas not covered by some telephony / ITS infrastructure. Conclusion: Opportunistic use of satellite links to complement other existing communication technologies in areas not covered and during low traffic density. Targeted to Road Safety applications.

International Telecommunication Union The Fully Networked Car Geneva, 3-4 March 2010 Conclusions / Recommendations Many communication technologies are competing to support ITS services. Some of them are very promishing providing that some new concepts and technics are developed to improve their QoS and efficiencies. Some opportunities may exist. Simulation represents a first step to valid new concepts and technics. However, its is not sufficient in itself and shall be followed by experiments. Deployment costs and satisfaction of applications functional / operational requirements shall also be taken into account to select a minimum set of technologies required for interoperability.
