CAREERS IN SPOTLIGHT: BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER What do they do? Biomedical engineers analyze and design solutions to problems in biology and medicine, with the goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care. What kind of training is involved? Biomedical engineers typically need a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from an accredited program to enter the occupation. Then either get a graduate degree in biomedical engineering or get on-the-job training in biomedical engineering. What is a typical salary for a Research Scientist? Depending upon experience, starting from as little as $60,000/year ($29/hour) to over $100,000/year ($48/hour). Graduate students’ stipend is about $25,000/year ($12/hour).
