GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Currently, 40 percent of students entering four- year colleges and universities and 63 percent of students at two-year institutions require some remedial education. This is a significant concern because a student is less likely to obtain a bachelor’s degree if he or she has taken one or more remedial courses.

GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Choose AP Are you ready for a unique learning experience that will help you succeed in college? Through AP's college-level courses and exams, you can earn college credit and advanced placement, stand out in the admission process, and learn from some of the most skilled, dedicated, and inspiring teachers in the world. A Different Kind of Class From the moment you enter an AP classroom, you'll notice the difference—in the teacher's approach to the subject, in the attitude of your classmates, in the way you start to think. In AP classrooms, the focus is not on memorizing facts and figures. Instead you'll engage in intense discussions, solve problems collaboratively, and learn to write clearly and persuasively.

GEAR UP Alliance 2011 Institute for a College-Going Culture: Drive the dream Can a student get college credit or advanced placement for a grade of 3 on the AP English Language Exam? Yes. However, students should check the credit/placement policy at the schools they are considering attending because policies vary from one institution to another; sometimes they vary within an institution from department to department.
