Unit 7 PC SYSTEMS Unit 7: PC Systems Unit type: Certificate and Diploma Learning hours: 60 hours Unit level: 1

Summary of learning outcomes To achieve this unit learners must: Find out the key components of a PC system Explore different PC systems for a specified end-user Research a suitable PC for a specified end-user Develop user guidance for a specified end-user.

RECAP LESSON 1 Components of a PC system Functions of the components Covered functions of the motherbaord Task 1 was introduced.

Functions of the Components Lesson 2 RAM –Random Access Memory. RAM is an electronic, or volatile, state. When the computer is off, RAM is empty; when it is on, RAM is capable of receiving and holding a copy of the software instructions and data necessary for processing. computer Random Access Memory (RAM) is simply called "Memory". It's memory that is directly readable by the Central Processing Unit (CPU) of a computer system. Every computer system has a Random Access Memory. It's installed into the motherboard slots of a computer system. For a better performance and fast execution of programs a computer systemcomputer system should have large RAM. The RAM sizes of 256MB, 512 MB and 1GB are normal these days.

Functions of the Components RAM: –Random Access Memory, What is the main function of RAM? Connect the statements also choose the true statements below. C. It is a board on which all the components are interconnected E. It is a huge storage board for computer data A. Temporary storage of data. F. Temporary storage of a copy of application programapplication program instructions to be retrieved by the central processing unit (CPU) for interpretation and execution. B. that has been produced as a result of processing until instructions call for the data to be used again D. in subsequent processing or to be transferred to an output device such as the screen, a printer, or a disk storage disk storage device.

Task 2 In your own words describe the main functions of RAM. Use one A4 sheet, font size 12 Arial or Tahoma. Recall Task 1 the motherboard and show where RAM slots are? (you demonrated this by recording your own video showing you pointing at the RAM slot on the mother board.
