PRESENTATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM

PURPOSE To provide enhanced opportunities for those academically eligible and approved students who are seeking a more challenging academic program

CONCEPT ◦ Offer members a higher level college preparatory program. ◦ Members are required to take Honors and Advanced Placement courses earlier in their high school experience ◦ The program will require course work involving advanced research, writing and critical thinking as well as summer academic work. ◦ Members will be encouraged to publish a document in an area of their interest by their junior year. ◦ Members will be offered enrichment opportunities to include focused college guidance, cultural experiences and the option of exploring other areas of personal academic interest – all supported by field trips. ◦ Online courses will be available for those who encounter scheduling conflicts and/or want to explore academic interests in areas not offered at Burke (fee applies).

RETENTION To remain in the PSP, students must accomplish the following: ◦ Maintain a GPA of 93 ◦ Participate in at least one extracurricular activity each semester, eg; club, Society or competitive athletic team ◦ Complete monthly community service hours (Freshmen/Sophomores – 3 hrs; Juniors/Seniors – 7 hrs, may be served coincidental with NHS hours) ◦ Complete one research project per year as designated by class ◦ Complete academic summer study requirements plus one summer project presented to and approved by the PSP committee no later than May 15.

Students will still be competitive for top tier universities Students may still be eligible to for Honors courses Students may still be eligible for Advance Placement course May re-compete for admission as a Sophomore, if space permits. PSP Does Not: Guarantee acceptance into an Ivy League school Guarantee a 4.0 GPA Guarantee good SAT or ACT scores But it will give you all the tools to achieve these goals!
