E.E CUMMINGS
3
E.E CUMMINGS’S STYLE Non-traditional, experimental Spare and precise (uses few key words) Uses some invented words (combining two common words into a new synthesis Uses words as “if” “am” “because” as nouns, assigning his own meanings to words (meaning > correct grammar) Often used the pronoun “i” in the lower case, to show that self is not always as important as it seems Used capital words when he wanted to emphasize them ex) Humanity i love you

WHAT IF A MUCH OF A WHICH OF A WIND Emotion : cynical, powerful, demanding, Image 1 : Nature will not cease to exist; only creature who can change it is the man. Image 2 : extended personification of nature describing seasonal change from winter to spring. Image 3 : A man sitting in a field watching the nature and the sky. Idea : Everything changes as the time passes by. The more generations the world goes through, the more the world develops.
