Network Solutions, Inc. Katie Gotshall Shane Neff Todd Rowlett Ryan Shaffer Rachel Stull Network Proposal for Mountain Sky Elementary School
2
Problem Statement Students, teachers, and administrators need an easy to use, fast and secure access to the Internet, academic services available on the school’s intranet, and a central location in which to store the school system’s applications and student data.
3
Network Requirements 1000% LAN growth, 100% WAN
Only two protocols (TCP/IP and IPX) Internet access to all nodes School must have two distinct LANs Internal and External Security DHCP address assignment Access Control Lists on routers

District IP Addressing
The district will be assigned a Class C address. The district will use Network Address Translation (NAT) to achieve a network Subnet mask of yields 256 networks with over 65,000 host per network
11
Mountain Sky IP Addressing
Mountain Sky will be designated 3 networks of which one will be the connection to the district hub. All networks have a subnet mask. —Student LAN —Administrative LAN —Connection to District Hub

DHCP IP Address Assignment
A DHCP server will be used to assign IP addresses for both students and administrators. The administrators’ range of IP addresses will be defined as ‘statically automatic’ meaning each machine will receive the same address each time This will allow for the DHCP to also function as an application server and lessen the burden placed on the school’s IT staff
16
IPX Addressing Scheme The IPX addressing scheme will use the subnet portion of the IP address for the host address and the MAC address of the host belonging to that network as the host portion of the address.
