Breathing Underwater Scuba Divers originally got air underwater from a hose connected to the surface. Nowadays we have air tanks that give the divers air and they can move freely without getting tangled up with hoses connected to the ship. Before the air hoses there was another technique, just plain old holding your breathe. Most people didn’t last long. Other people claimed they could hold their breath the longest. Scuba Divers today look like this:

Underwater Vision Light entering the eye from water barely changes direction at all, leaving only the eye's crystalline lens to focus light. This leads to serious hypothermia. Diving masks and helmets solve this problem by giving an air space in front of the diver's eyes.

Diving Suits In the case of a dry suit, it does exactly what the name implies: keeps a diver dry. The suit is waterproof and is sealed so tight that the diver can’t feel the cold water. Sometime the diver has to carry a extra gas tank to sometimes fill the suit with a gas called argon gas. A dry suit mostly looks like this:

Table of Hand Signals There is a set of hand signals that divers use to talk to other divers going with you. The table looks like this:

Risks of Diving Diving is 96 times more dangerous than driving a car! Every hour of diving is 36 to 62 times riskier than driving a car. A big difference between the risks of driving and diving is that the diver is less at risk from fellow divers than the driver is from other drivers. So if you are going diving , BE CAREFUL!
