Accelerated Reader All students must read for 30 minutes a day Every student is assigned a personal goal; Deadline to meet your goal for the first quarter is Monday, October 26, 2015 Destiny.dadeschools.net Get books from MLK-8 or Dade County Libraries Classes will visit the Library every other week

Home Learning! (Approximately 60 minutes a day) Assigned Monday through Friday –By school board rule 6Gx13-6A1.2 In addition students should be reading 30 minutes each day I-Ready reading should be done for an hour a week Myon (www.myon.com) a minimum of 5 books should be read per quarterwww.myon.com

Uniform Policy Miami Lakes K-8 Center is a mandatory uniform school. Navy, khaki bottoms or jeans with school shirts P.T.S.A. sells uniform gear

Early pickup For Emergency ONLY Report to the office Have PHOTO ID Student will be paged in classroom Students will only be released to people listed on emergency contact cards with picture ID.

Early pickup (continued) Students will not be released after 2:45 When possible please schedule doctors appointments after school!

Arrival Students are not supervised before 8:00 a.m. All students must wait on the hard-court for their teachers to pick them up. Students will be walked in at 8:25 a.m.

Emergency Contact Cards Must be up to date –Including active phone number Must list names of all people authorized to pick up your child –Remember: students will only be dismissed to these people Please advise the office of any changes!

Security IN ACCORDANCE WITH SCHOOL BOARD RULES Students and parents may not enter the building before or after school Parents and visitors must present a photo ID and sign in. Must schedule meetings to see teachers.

Attendance policy IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL AND STATE LAW Students must be in attend 180 days of school per year. School hours are 8:35 – 3:05 (8:35 – 1:50) on Wednesdays). If your child is sick please have them stay home and bring a note once they return.

Conduct and Effort Conduct is your child’s behavior in class. A,B,C,D,F Effort- how much intensity your child puts into class including home learning, class work, tests, and participation. 1 (the best), 2 (satisfactory), 3 (unsatisfactory)

Conferences Ask, “What can we do together to help my child?” Schedule conferences with us when you wish to review your child’s progress. (M-F 2:05-3:05 p.m.) Please call/email to schedule a conference

Becoming a Volunteer! -Go to www.dadeschools.net click on community & look for school volunteerswww.dadeschools.net –Application will be cleared by M-DCPS prior to volunteering -Must be a cleared volunteer before chaperoning all field trips or participating in class activities. 2015 volunteers must update profile online 5 th grade class field trip is Friday, May 6 th to Epcot 5 th grade dance for the students is Friday, May 20, 2015
