What is it? Edmodo is a Learning Management System (LMS) for students and teachers. Think of it as a “Social Network” for your school The entire school can participate. Students use a code given by the teacher to add that class to their Edmodo account. The more teachers in a school use it the more helpful it is to the students.
3
Sign Up Teacher accounts allow the user to create and manage classes and post assignments and discussions Student accounts allow the user to join classes using a teacher provided code and respond to assignments and discussions you choose this one!!
4
Teacher vs. Student A teacher may create multiple classes. The teacher will give the students a “class code” in order for them to join that class. When the student enters the code they will automatically be added to the class associated with that code. Students can join multiple classes as long as they have the code for them. Features After completing the simple sign-up procedure you will have access to all the great features Edmodo has to offer.
6
Home Screen The feed can be filtered by group or class. The home screen contains a feed of recent posts and events relevant to your profile. It also contains links to other options and settings.
7
Classes Teachers have full control over their classes. They can add, remove and contact students through their group dashboard. Teachers can also create “small groups” when the class is broken up for class projects, allowing the groups to share resources with each other.
8
Assignments Teachers can add assignments to classes, complete with description, due date, and any necessary links or attachments. Once submitted the teacher can instantly grade and comment on the material.
9
Calendar Keep students organized by setting dates for tests and events. Student calendars will show events for each class in a customizable color. Assignments are automatically added to the calendar by their due date.
10
Gradebook Assignments added by the teacher are automatically added to the gradebook. Students can view their grade from their classes instantly, as well as view any comments made by the teacher.
11
Library Any links or files added by the teacher or student are added to the Library. The Library is a collection of personal and shared material stored on the site that the members can access later.
12
Usability While Edmodo seems daunting it is very simple. After logging in to the site simply scan around and find the link you need. Edmodo also provides a step-by-step User Guide to help new teachers get started http://help.edmodo.com/userguide/ http://help.edmodo.com/userguide/
13
Pros/Cons Very Flexible Could be used for many grade levels Convenient Allows learning to take place outside of the classroom Ease of Use Even non-tech teachers can use it. Free! And consistently upgraded with new features Parental Access Parents can access the site for their child to see the progress. Implementation Some schools may be wary of using a LMS One-Way Difficult for students to communicate to the group Name Control Students can create their own names/pseudonyms when signing up Daunting Site can seem very large and unwieldy at first view. PROSCONS

Use in Class As a LMS (Learning Management System) Edmodo is used to organize your classes into one easy to use system. However the system is only as good as the teacher and still requires the teacher to provide quality lessons and assessments to the students.
