History -In 1802, the British began the Great Trigonometric Survey of India to determine the location and names of the world's highest mountains and as they were on the gurney they found mount Everest.

History -The first people to clime MT Everest were Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. They reached the summit at 11:30 am local time on 29 May 1953
