3 Common Sense Who: *Thomas Paine was an immigrant from England who came to the colonies. *He was asked by Ben Rush to write an essay urging independence Why: *By 1776 many colonists believed that Parliament didn’t have the right to make laws for the colonies. *Kings are corrupt *Economically, we could survive w/out England When: The colonists had been fighting since April 1775.
