2 Hard Times by Charles Dickens Answer on your own: What of the 5 senses (imagery) does Dickens use? How and Why? (Give text examples) Which words does he repeat and why does he chose to do this? What is the author contrasting in this paragraph? What words does the author use to express his view of religion? Write a paragraph on how does Dickens feel about Industrialization through his description of Coketown? In your paragraph, discuss the techniques and quotes to support your analysis.

3 “Observations on the Effect of the Manufacturing System” 1815 by Robert Owen What is the author’s opinion of child labor in paragraph 4. Support with text evidence. Find examples of the author’s opinion in paragraph 3. In paragraph 2, what vocabulary and phrases does the author use to express his tone/view of manufacturing? In paragraph 4, how does the author use contrast and why?
