2 Servers control client/server networks A client/server network is run by a server. It is the only machine that talks to every other machine. Server Client

3 In a P2P network, all machines are equal In a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, all machines are equal, and each may send or receive data.

4 Different network styles serve different purposes What are these kinds of networks used for? P2P File sharing Communications and messaging Content distribution Collaboration applications Client/Server Email exchange FTP transfers Domain name serving Web browsing and serving ISP hosting

5 Thin-client networks Career media center & some classrooms. Type of client/server Clients are “thin” instead of “fat” Thin—no hard drive, minimal RAM Fat-large hard drive, large amount of RAM
