Round 1 “Intellectual” 1. Stratford-upon-Avon is William Shakespeare’s birthplace. 2. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Scotland in 1859 and studied medicine at the University of Ediburgh. 3. Hercule Poirot was a Belgian detective famous for his neat appearance and his use of psychology. 4. Miss Marple was nothing like a typical detective. 5. Agatha Christy was the world’s best known mystery writer and the “Queen of Crime”.

Round 2 “Well- educated” 1. East or West home is best. 2. First think, then speak. 3. As clear as day. 4. Better late than never. 5. Live and learn. 6.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. 7. An apple a day keeps a doctor away. 8. My home is my castle. 9. Business before pleasure. 10. Round 4 “Careful”. 1) What famous detective could you see in that dialogue? (Sherlock Holmes) 2) What is the name of his best friend? (Dr Watson) 3) What was the subject of their conversation? The murder of a black cat The kidnapping of a tiger The disappearance of the racehorse Silver Blaze. 4) Who was the owner of the horse? –Captain Smith –Colonel Ross –Bert Baxter, a pensioner. 5) Who created these characters as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson? (Sir A.C. Doyle)

Round 5 “Willingness to cooperate”. Card 1: * Oscar Wild wrote a short story “The Canterville Ghost”. * Daniel Defoe used real adventures of a sailor to write “Robinson Crusoe”. Card 2: * William Shakespeare often acted in his own plays. * The English poet Byron fought in the Greek war of independence. Card 3: * The book I’m reading now is “Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe. * Sir A.C. Doyle created Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.
