5-Minute Check Simplify. 1) 2)3) 4) 5) 2/3 3/5 2 2a/b3
2
Objectives: Students will analyze, write and solve problems involving proportions. Why? So you can solve real world problems involving proportions. Mastery is 80% or better on 5-minute checks and Indy Work
3
Skill Develop Example 1 Solve. 7x = 63 x = 9 (x)(7)=(21)(3)
4
Relevance Much of what we do is proportional in many real world applications. ie the directions and measurements of ingredients required to cook, or the rate of pay on the job, taxes when we make purchases and in Real Estate (Taxes, Insurance etc)
5
Skill Develop Example 2 35x = 350 x x = 10 35 87.5 4 = Solve. (35)(x) = (4)(87.5)
6
Guided Practice—White Boards 1) Solve. 2) 3) Answer = 20 Answer = 2 ½ Answer = 28/6 or 4 2/3
7
Think…Ink…Share Example 3 If a car moving at constant speed travels 55 miles in 2 hours, how many miles will it travel in 7 hours? 385 = 2x 192.5 = x (55)(7)=(2)(x) Let x be the distance traveled in 7 hours 192.5 miles
8
Performance Task 1) The scale on a map says that 0.5cm represents 25km. On the map the measurement between two cities is 5cm. What is the actual distance between these two cities? Solve. 2) According to the scale on a road map, 3 inches represent 40 miles. If two cities measure 10 inches apart on the map, how many miles apart are they?.5/25 = 5/X so.5X = 125 or 250 km 3/40 = 10/X so 3X = 400 or 133.33 miles apart

What was the Objective? Students will analyze, write and solve problems involving proportions. Why? So you can solve real world problems involving proportions. Mastery is 80% or better on 5-minute checks and Indy Work
10
Homework Students will apply what you have learned in analyzing, writing & solving proportions. ALG 1 p.150-151 #25-43 all…..show your work for credit. Geometry Work Sheet
