2 WATER FACILITIES – ch.10 Levee-type ponds – an earthen wall is formed on nearly level land and filled Watershed ponds – created by damming a natural valley or stream Raceways – rapidly moving water Cages – can be used to protect small fish from larger fish and are versatile Tanks – closed systems often used for small fish

3 SITE SELECTION Levee-type ponds – adequate supply of clean water, soil that holds water (clay), suitable terrain Watershed ponds – between 5 and 25 acres of watershed needed per acre of water surface Raceway ponds – flowing source of water Cage sites – natural movement of new water and sufficient depth Tank sites – access to roads, suppliers, and utilities; water source; use for discharged water
