Session objectives By the end session, CPs should be able to: 1) Define the term human resource management 2) Discuss effective strategies for managing human resources in schools 3) identify some challenges of managing human resource, discuss possible interventions.

Managing Human Resources Use of [staff] in such a way that the school leader obtains the greatest possible benefit from the staff’s abilities and the staff obtain both material and psychological rewards from their work (Graham & Bennett, 1998).

Management of People Style of managing people is vital Most head teachers believe in consultation / participative style Styles of management in schools vary: Autocratic, Laissez faire, Democratic, Contingency etc.

Important Effective and efficient management of staff / human resource in school leads to achievement of successful teaching and learning outcomes It is through effective management of people that organizational goals / objectives can be successfully achieved
