3. This dream is not easy to achieve….. Problems: 1)Tuition: not affordable for new migrants * University Non-resident:Non-resident students pay basic registration fees plus $339 per unit. * college: non-resident:$183/unit x12unit= $ 2196 Resident : $20/unit x12unit= $240

4. 2) Language barrier: -Can not speak and listen clearly due to lacking experience of speaking with native speakers -Get shocked when communicating with native speakers because they speak to fast, use a lot of slang and connect words - American speakers have different accents due to different nationalities, so misunderstanding is hard to avoid

5. 3)Learning style: - Asian people tend to be shy and reserved, so they dare not make question in class, fail to grab the lesson - Tend to lean on professor’s note, not get used to searching materials on internet, library - tend to learn by memory, lack creative and independent thought in giving points of view - Not familiar with team work

How to solve this problem? 1)Tuition: Financial aids: Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education, ensures that all eligible individuals can benefit from federally funded or federally guaranteed financial assistance for education beyond high school. It helps to offset your tuition Phase out range: $12000-&19000

7. Other helps…. EOP&S: Extended Opportunity Program and Services. It is designed to help students to the educational direction and meet their goals. Offer book voucher, counsellor and grants (400/semester) Fastrack: FasTrack is a federally funded Student Support Services (SSS) TRIO program designed to assist first-generation, low-income, and disabled students as they prepare to obtain a two-year degree and/or transfer to a four- year university. Offer counsellor and grants 200/semester  Calgrant: This California grant is for students who are from disadvantaged or low-income families who otherwise would not be ablet o pursue higher education. This grant may be used at a community college or a university for up to four years. Language barrier: Should spend 1 year with ESL level: ESL 321: fundamental of reading( improve skill of reading like skimming, getting main point) ESL 330: improvement of writing.(Develop competence in writing standard English) ESL 091: college reading and writing. (Focus on reading and writing skills, learn how to do research ) ESL 324: listening and speaking skill development. Develop listening in academic context and speaking at an intermediate level.

9. Adaption : 1)Student clubs: -membership has its privileges. Ex: Vietnamese Association, BAP, FMCA 2)Work study or part-time job: -work experience understanding of the workplace culture. -experience is a high priority 3) counselors: -Provide services that include referral,coordination, and special field of knowledge that deals with their specific problems and needs. -Keep track of student’s study.
