1 Sept. 6 Agenda 1.BW 2. Plot/story arc overview 3.Read Amelia Bedelia BW: What, in your opinion, makes a good, interesting story? Write for 4-5 minutes about this. Use examples and explain how those examples apply to your definition of a “good” story. There is no right or wrong answer.

5 Exposition  Setting and characters are established  Main conflict is introduced Conflict: opposition of person or forces

6 Rising Action  The main conflict is dealt with through action  The main character is aware there is a conflict and takes steps to battle crisis

7 Climax  The high point/moment of greatest tension. May be physical, emotional or mental.

8 Falling Action  Story begins to wind down  Results/consequences of decisions character has made

9 Resolution  The end/dénouement. Conflicts resolved, loose ends tied up, happy or sad ending.

10 The devil is in the details

11 As we read story…  Trace story arc  Consider author’s decisions  Consider literary devices such as repetition
